Across the road from the bakery, beneath an old lean-to, stands a battered cardboard carrot box. Most people would walk past it without a second glance.
But some of the letters on the box have faded, leaving just enough behind to suggest something far more important.
C.A.T.
Cat Action Team.
This is the secret headquarters of three highly trained street cats.
There is Mister M, the silver tabby who runs operations from the top of the box.
There is Shadow, the black cat whose job is to follow suspicious targets.
And there is Marmalade, the fluffy ginger field agent, always ready to investigate anything suspicious. Especially food.
Together, they watch over the village, investigate unusual events, and report back to headquarters with great seriousness.
To everyone else, they look like ordinary cats.
Which, of course, is exactly what they want people to think.
